History of LoS
LINE of SNACKS Consultants International was founded by Mr. Don Petty in January, 1990. The mission was to improve snack food quality, efficiency and profit worldwide. The original purpose of LoS was to make available to the industry, people who were snack food problem-solvers.
Professionals sought were retired managers, scientists, 
engineers, production and research people with
successes in manufacturing, product development personnel, quality control and training
personnel. A major (17 month) project was underway when Mr. Petty began formulating the
business plan for the consultancy. As soon as the project was completed, he advertised his
services in Snack World magazine (a monthly journal of the Snack Food Association) and the
first response came.
A small
company in Pacific Palisades, California, hired Mr. Petty for one half-day consultation to
counsel them on tortilla chip production and he received his first compensation for
services rendered in July of 1990. 
From that first client the list has grown to over 50 (many, many repeats) circling the globe. The projects have ranged from speeches, seminars and workshops to installing tortilla chip processes, upgrading potato chip processing and assisting with the process for a brand new baked potato chip product. Other projects have included improving corn curls, solving corn chip quality problems, cooking corn for three companies with a difficult corn crop from an especially wet year, and to establishing taco shell shelf life and adding flavor grains to improve masa flour products.
The company has been a success from the beginning due to the skill and experience of the consultants called upon for work in their respective areas; quality assurance, fry oil handling, combustion, taste panel administration, marketing, product development, and process control.
The News LINE of SNACKS newsletter was founded in the spring of 1994, and has carried news and information to the industry from the point of view of a consultant on a biannual basis.
The
interesting activities of note include speeches for the Department of Agriculture in Kuala
Lumpur, Malaysia, (1996); Tortilla Industry Association in Denver (1996); American
Institute of Baking (1996 and invited again for July, 1997); Workshops in Indonesia,
Borneo, and Philippines in 1994, under the auspices of the U.S.A.I.D., Washington.
In 1996, Kint & Associates (La Mirada, California and Seoul, Korea) began representing LINE of SNACKS in Korea.
As of January, 1997, LoS is on the Internet. Bimonthly changes should be anticipated for the LoS home page. LINE of SNACKS will retain its name and freedom of action, but is now held under the umbrella of Don Petty Enterprises, along with other diverse companies.
